Mapquest Driving Directions

I’ve been using online mapping softwares like Mapquest, Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, and Bing Maps for a long time, there are many reasons that can explain why I’m such an avid user of these programs but I think that being a part time Geography teacher for over 10 years has something to do with it. I started using web map applications to make my classes more interactive and fun but very soon I realized that these softwares could be used for more than just exploring the world, don’t get me wrong exploring and knowing the world is important and useful too but features like Mapquest driving directions and Google maps street view are what make these online applications so popular.

I had been using in class Mapquest maps to make the classes better, to enhance my students learning process, this was even before I ever used Google maps for the first time, I was just using the software to get maps and print them, I had heard from some friends that the driving directions feature was amazing and incredibly accurate. The school where I taught was very far from my apartment and traffic was always crazy, lots of traffic in my route every single day, one day after class I had my computer on, mapquest.com was on too, I was exhausted from a long day of work! so I said to myself what the hell using the route builder can’t make my trip worst than it always is! I really gave that software a good test that day and I decided to use most of the available options that the driving directions feature had at that time. I used the route planner to create a route with multiple stops on it, I had to stop at the grocery store and at the drug store to get some medicine before getting to my place. It was pretty cool and very easy, I just entered the address of my apartment and entered the name of the businesses that I was looking for in the search box, I also checked traffic conditions along my route and I found out that some of the roads that I had to take had a lot of traffic, so I changed the route a little bit by simply dragging and dropping the route line to get alternate routes with less traffic, if there had been a toll anywhere along the route I would have made some changes to the route as well because you do have that option with mapquest’s software, anyway my first experience with MapQuest driving directions was totally amazing and since that day I have been fan!

When I used the route planner for the first time I used the driving time and driving distance options, I couldn’t believe it, I mean I did not have any faith at all in this feature the software was telling me that my usual 2 hour drive would only take 35 minutes this time including stops and everything! Guess what the software was wrong! It only took me 33 minutes to get to my house that day! The reason why I even gained some extra minutes was probably because I was driving a bit fast because I was so excited that the software did actually work as well as everyone said, my route had no traffic at all! Since that day I started using Mapquest for driving directions and other online mapping softwares too every single day of my life. Now I’m probably using Google Maps a lot more but that’s just because Google maps has a lot more features, Mapquest driving directions for USA and Canada is probably the best turn by turn driving directions service.

When I began using this web mapping service I had no mobile phone, I remember that I first had to print maps with the routes displayed on them, now I have an Iphone and I love to use Mapquest 4 Mobile which is a free app by the way.

Mapquest has a searchable database with over 16 million POIs so you can track down any business, historical or important landmark along your routes or when you are visiting another city or country, or whatever. You can use many more tools and features different to the ones I just mentioned, you can find the lowest gas prices near your location, you can use street view to virtually navigate in any place using street level images this feature is known as 360 degree view, you can use high quality street maps to get around, satellite maps, you can save maps and routes with my maps, you can still print maps, yo can link to maps, you can email maps, you can optimize your routes by clicking on any of the many directions options, once the options are displayed you can choose shortest distance or shortest time, the software will immediately create a route that will get you to your destination faster! Using directions options you can also choose to avoid tolls, seasonal roads, ferries, highways, country borders, and timed restrictions.

Mapquest basically provides the best driving directions, they use the latest technology in geo-location and geo-positioning, they have the highest quality maps, the software is very simple, very user friendly and intuitive, anyone can use it, even if you are 100 years old you would understand what you have to do by simply looking at it. Mapquest turn by turn driving directions are very easy to follow, again even if you were 100 years old you could easily follow the routes provided by the route planning software, this service will also help you save money by helping you find the lowest gas prices near your location and by providing very efficient routes that will help spend less on gas.

If you find this web map application fascinating then you should try out Google maps, Yahoo maps, Bing Maps, and Rand Mcnally just to mention a few, there are many more but I personally like the ones I just mentioned a lot more, besides Mapquest Google Maps and Google Earth are probably the best online mapping softwares right now so you might want to give them a try.
